To begin creating your questions, go to the ADMINISTRATION block Course Administration > Question bank > Questions

Select a category the quiz question will go into the following category from the drop down menu.

Select Create a new question.

Categories can be created and changed later.

Select Essay

Click on Next

Category: Categories can be set up at a later stage.

(See notes on "Creating Categories" for further information).

Question name*: Enter title of the question. Question names are only seen by course developers (not students). You could enter your element and PC mapping in the name to make it easy to locate questions related to specific performance criteria.

Question text*: Enter the question text.

Default mark*: By default, each question is assigned 1 point. You can change this in the Grade field beside the question.

General Feedback: You can provide general feedback in this area to give students a fully worked answer. You may also provide a link to more information they can use if they do not understand the questions.

Student reply settings - If you want students to use the online editor for typing and submitting their essay.

(Recommend students submit essay as a word document rather than use this feature).

Response format: Select from HTML editor/plain

Require text: sets whether or not the student needs to insert text in order to complete the assignment. 

Input box size: Max 40 lines

Allow attachments: from 1 to unlimited

Require attachments: Students must submit an attachment in order to receive a grade.

Information for graders: Add any special instructions for people marking the essay.

Options for essay responses

Once you have completed your question, click on Save changes.

Repeat the process to add more essay questions to the question bank.
